SCHEDULE

Friday 3rd May: 6-9pm
Saturday 4th May: 9am-6pm (*1 hour lunch break)

In this workshop you will learn the common denominator principles that underpin ALL of the most effective movement practices.

You will learn fundamental practical movement skills and principles apply them in a variety of situations to explore our potential.

We will study the vital difference between developing the function and a function of the human body, understanding why elite performance often precludes health and why the modern definition of strong is anything but.

You will learn why training outside, seeking true variability, is an essential addition to any health/fitness programme, in terms of both physical and mental health.

You will experience the truth that movement is a neural matter, and that it is your mind and not your body which limits your movement potential.

We will explore all this and more as we delve deep into your Movement DNA.

WORKSHOP CONTENT

Within these two days of intensive practical study and training we will cover:

1.    Practical Movement Skills: developing physical literacy; jump mechanics, impact absorption and dispersal; low gait movement; rolling as a movement skill; vaulting and passing obstacles; climbing and traversing; brachiating and swinging, and more. There is a need to develop a complete movement practice, which is exactly what the body is evolved for. No complex tools or equipment required.

2.    Physical Readiness: the biotensegrity model of the human body; motor mapping technologies; fascial tensioning; resilient architecture; health over fitness; redefining strength; longevity. Over-programming and over-specialisation can lead to imbalance and weakness through the endless correction cycle. The body and nature have great wisdom we can all tap into.

3.    Task-Oriented Training: movement games; psycho-geographical applications; context-based practice; affordances for movement; seasonal practice. Our brains are designed to solve complex problems. Simplification of our challenges and our environments weakens us. Anti-fragility is our nature.

4.    Internal Tools: flow states; harnessing fear and cultivating confidence; instinctive movement, feedback apparatus; mental readiness. Your body moves better than you ever can: get out of its way.
